Money Matters

As income tax and council tax payers, the public has a right to know that its money is being spent wisely by Bedfordshire Police Service. The Finance Committee is delegated by the Authority to oversee the budget.

Our policy of openness means you have full access to information in the Annual Policing Plan about how the Authority deploys its funds.

Each year the Audit Commission provides an independent assessment of Police Use of Resources (PURE). PURE involves auditors assessing whether Police Authorities and forces are achieving value for money, and providing effective financial management.

At the last inspection Bedfordshire Police Authority was judged to have performed well (consistently above minimum requirements) in five different areas - value for money, improving on previous years assessments, financial management, financial reporting, internal control and financial standing.

You can find out more about the Budget and the Statement of Accounts and read the decisions of the Finance Committee in the Library section.
